Bios V: 0904
Build Date: 01.03.11

i5 760
Asus P7P55-M P55 Express Chipset (Socket 1156) DDR3 microATX Motherboard [90-MIBAW1-G0EAY0K]
Ati Radeon 5770
Crosair XMS3 1600 Mhz (4GB) 2x2GB
Ocz 600W

The memory came in the blue slots on the mobo when i purchased as a prebuilt system...i believe there the dual channel slots and the system only recognises 2GB BUT If i put the memory in the black slots it recognises the total 4 GB so the memory is not faulty...

Is there any other tests i can run before starting a RMA procedure?

thanks

Is the system overclocked? If it is revert it back to stock.

You could try and determine which DIMM slot is faulty (if it is a slot at fault).

Test 1 stick in in DIMM_A1 (bluse slot nearest the cpu) and then test DIMM_B1 (the other blue slot) - and see if the sytsem will post/recognise the memroy indepently in each slot.

Re-do the test with the 2nd stick - if you get exactly the same results, it would look a lot like a MB problem.

Hi Plec,
This was a Titan Gamer system and was overclocked when i bought it from here, i think by me doing the bios updated i might have reset it back to the factory settings because the clock speed is 2.8Ghz.

I have tested both memory modules in the black memory slots and it shows 4GB, but when in the blue slots it shows as 2GB which suggests one of the blue slots is faulty. I will narrow it down to the specific slot....

You will have lost your clock and unfortunately your OcUK profile that will have been saved in the BIOS. If you contact OcUK in the Customer services forums they may be able to help you (i.e. ball park figures for the clock/BIOS).

Did you remember to reset the CMOS after the BIOS update?

im not concerned much about my overclock, i would have thought if i was liable for a board replacement then they would restore my clock back to default?

I have done what you suggested, the blue slot closest to the CPU works fine by itself, its the other blue slot that does not work, the machine switches on but there is no "beep" and the monitor does not come on either, but the CPU fan is spinning and mobo light is on....

If the build is under a year old your right - OcUK would sort out your settings when they swapped out the MB.

If it's over a year then your warranty will be with Asus - but i suspect if you email OcUK and ask nicely they would still give you 'ball-park' figures for the BIOS settings when you get your replacement.

If you've tried this with both sticks it's looking quite damning for the MB.

Have you re-seated the HS lately?

Also, to identify the MB completely you may want to try reseating the CPU - just to rule it out (but this is a bit overkill - but it is an outside possibilty.).

But all roads seem to be pointing to the MB...
