Hi,

I built a computer a few years a go and everything has been working great.
a few weeks a go it just turned off by itself, tried turning it back on and nothing.

After doing some tests on the power supply and testing another power supply i narrowed it down to the motherboard.

So i have bought a new board a gigabyte sniper m3, now instead of being dead its firing up for a few seconds, Fans are spinning for 2/3 seconds and then off and it keeps repeating the on off cycle until i turn it off by the mains.

Could someone help?
Im thinking its now the cpu rather than the board.

spec is

i7 2600k
Asus p8p67 pro motherboard but it failed so I have upgraded to a Gigabyte sniper m3
Nvidia GTX580
Geil 8gb ram

i have removed everything apart from cpu and placed only one ram stick in slot 1 and still nothing.

tried both psu's on the sniper board? and tested all your ram sticks one at a time in just slot #1?

can try a long cmos clear/battery left out a good 10 minutes then try

tried cmos reset, tried different power supply.
tries everything lol

looks like its the cpu.

Its a i7 2600k sandy bridge.
would this still be under warranty?

Sounds strange but try this. Loosen the mobo screws. I was having random shut downs on a brand new build after I had taken everything out and replaced some fans. Turned out that I screwed my board in too tightly and the standoffs were shorting the board out. It's worth a shot to see if you have a similar problem!

Got the right PSU cables in the right slots?
I put an 8 pin into my mobo and it refused to power on. Realised it was the wrong type of 8 pin even though it fit. Put correct one in and everything was fine.
The correct one has a double width clip as opposed to the single width on the PCI-E.
