Hey there so just received my new mb and cpu this morning but have already a problem. When I turn the pc on, the system starts for 10 seconds and then the pc shut down. 5 seconds after it tries to turn on again but re shut down. And this repeatedly. I thought of a shortage so got the mb outside the case, tries with another psu, without the ram. But it still does that. What's happening? New stuff is i5 3570k and msi z77 gd65. Have I received faulty components?

Any beeping when you start the computer?

Have you tried with just one stick of RAM? Tried alternating between RAM slots?

Nothing on the screen is think it doesn't have time. I know it's restarting because it shuts down. 5 seconds after it tries to restart but re shuts down.

I am gutted :(

Make sure the CPU heatsink is firmly seated and the fan is plugged in. Also clear the CMOS by removing the small battery on the board for a few minutes with the power cable removed from the PSU.

The board won't boot without a CPU so that doesn't really tell you anything. Yes give them a call or drop them a webnote.

CPUs are pretty hardy, so it is more likely to be the motherboard or the power supply.

You could remove the CPU and check for bent pins or dirt / thermal paste in the socket.

OK it turns out I might have bent some pins on the cpu socket. I don't understand i think I have been careful... If it's really me I m surprised how fragile it is. It's the first time I have an Intel cpu. Compared to am3 socket it's fragile isn't it?

I called customers service the guy has been very nice and said as it's new they will replace it (or repair). I hope they will!

Has anybody experienced this misadventure?

your lucky they offered to replace, been an asus board you would have to have thrown it in the bin as they wont repair cpu damage even if you offer to pay, gigabyte do though

and yes its very easy to bend the pins so be extra carefull next time, just line the cutouts up each side of the cpu and let it ever so slightly drop into place

I've bent a few pins in my time, thankfully on a Gigabyte board who do free socket repairs.

Personally I prefer to have the pins on the lower value item, so in most cases the motherboard not the CPU. Yes it's nice not having pins in an AM3 socket, until you bend pins on the more expensive CPU.

Very good service if they replace/repair it - not many companies would do that!

It happens though - just gotta make sure to be extra careful next time :p
