Hello there.

My setup: Q6000, Abit IP35 Pro, 2 x 1 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 667 Ram.

Yesterday I decided to buy more ram, I installed the new ram, 2 x2 GB Kingston Hyperx 8500 DDR2 ram. After the installation I booted up but got a C1 error (memory related) on the MB LED Display.

I then cleared the CMOS, reinserted my old Crucial ram and booted up. The problem I have now is that no matter how I place the ram in the MB, slots 1+3 or 2+4 the ram only shows up as 1 GB Single Channel in CPU-Z. I've tried booting up with just 1 stick of ram and changed them both so I know none of the sticks are faulty.

I am wondering if it could be a bios related problem or something else?

If any more information is needed to help me solve this please ask.

Best regards.

David

Hi David

Welcome to the forums

I had to DL your MB manual to have a quick look :)

RAM in slots 1 + 3 to start with. You cleared CMOS as per manual.

the C1 error was probably generated by one of the DIMMS not being seated properly.

I had a similar problem not long ago and re-checked the seating and found 1 DIMM slightly out.

When you clear CMOS the memory timings are usually set to 800Mhz so you need to enter BIOS during POST and check that your RAM is set correctly.

Failing that uninstall CPU-Z and reinstall, sometimes it misreads the hex file stored in your hardware incorrectly and gives all sorts of false readings :)

Thanks for the quick reply Essexraptor.

You were right, the ram are set to 800 mhz in the bios. I am sorry for sounding ignorant, but with the Crucial ram what should they be set to in order for more than 1gb ram to be registered?

I've read through the manual and looked at the options in the bios but it still puzzles me as to which settings to change. On boot there are still only 1 gb of ram listed and CPU-Z says I only have ram socketed in DIMM 1.

Best regards.
