Faulty Motherboard?

Hi,

I had to look at my cousins PC last night which apparently had shut itself off (powered off) twice in the last day. It will now no longer boot.

Mobo = Asus K8N Socket 754 With Athlon 3200 CPU

I swapped out the graphics card to a known working one. Nothing.
Reset Cmos - Nothing.
Attached Speaker - Nothing.

Removed ram - no beeps nothing.

The system powers - Cpu fan etc but no activity or signal to monitor.

I noticed that I could not eject either DVD drive in the machine. After removing the IDE cable from the motherboard and repowering the machine both DVD drives would eject.

I have no way to test the CPU/Ram so I'm guessing that the motherboard itself is probably dead.

Any ideas?

May sound stupid, but try removing the reset switch cable. I had a case that somehow the cable/switch managed to lock itself into perm reset, and it was doing the same as what you are experiencing.

Regards clean it was pretty clean anyway - I reseated everything I could cable wise.

If they haven't picked up a new mobo I'll give the reset thing a go. New board not silly money anyway <40 quid so they will have a spare :)

Cheers
