I'm pretty sure that my MB is faulty but just wanted some opinions before I send it back.

I have a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R and I am experiencing BSODs reporting with 0x124 error code (hardware related). These started soon after I built the machine and I initially thought it was the RAM (Corsair XMS3 DDR3 4GB (2x2GB)). I RMA'd the RAM after a Memtest reported an error on a single stick. After getting these back the problem has persisted. The only difference is that before the BSOD reports used to have different error codes and reporting different files as the cause of the problem. Now the BSOD always reports as 0x124.

I've removed one stick of RAM and I don't experience any BSODs, the system is completely stable. This is what makes me believe it may be a faulty RAM socket / controller.

Need any more info, let me know.

Cheers.

Place your ram in the other slot of the same colour and see if you still get BSOD. Then if you do place ram in other colour slots and again see if BSOD. If yes to both looks like RAM again. If no the slot is the problem and RMA is the answer.

check your BIOS version against the latest available from the Gigabyte website - an update fixed the memory problems I was having with detection.

If it's the latest version try setting your vcore, QPI and RAM voltages manually, I had a few bluescreens that have gone away since I took off auto settings and went to manual input instead.

If none of that helps, remove your CPU and check the pins in the socket to see if you can see any that are bent. You'll need good light and ideally a magnifying glass to check properly since theyre so small and densely packed. Sometimes just reseating the CPU can correct an issue since the memory controller is on-die but bent pins will likely mean an RMA (unless you have the means to try correcting it yourself) :)

good luck
