faulty ps3

My 30 month old ps3 is randomly shutting down.
Isthis overheating or any other likely causes.
No previous problems to date
Sits on top of tv bench with decent ventilation

Is the power light flashing red after it shuts down - if so this is an indication that it has automatically shut down as it has overheated.

Nope switches off completely not even the standby light on but flicking switch at back turns it back on

Isn't this the sort of problem you use the microwave solution for?
