So turns out I am one of the unlucky ones,

Did anyone else purchase a PS4 which was faulty ?

I wanted to make this thread to make people aware of what a ball ache its been to get sorted out,

I pre ordered and paid early for a unit from GAME White Rose, After picking the unit up midnight I took it home, set it up and discovered the optical drive is faulty, sounds awful once you put a disk in, my daily job is to build computers so at this point I can 100% say this drive is broken or is not mounted correctly inside the PS4 chassis.

Game told me I have to contact Sony directly, I did so and Sony advised me due to the nature of the fault they have to collect the unit and inspect it to rule out IF I!!! have dropped it, if they suspect I have my warranty is void and I have to pay to have the unit shipped back to me, I am absolutely disgusted they would throw out such accusations before even receiving the console back.

Again due to the nature of the fault they will not offer a collect and replace service, the unit has to go back to them and they will hopefully turn it around within 72 hours, DPD are coming to collect the console tomorrow and will only take the console, no cables, pads, wires or anything which has annoyed me as I don't trust DPD will package it securely, Sony advised DPD do have adequate packaging and would not accept the unit if I package it myself, fair enough!

Pretty crap really that I have been made to feel Sony are doing me a favour by collecting it and offering to have a look at it, Sony in theory should be apologetic they have shipped faulty units to customers, Again as I work in this industry I can appreciate not all are going to work, many will have faults and many will be DOA, its the after support which I find very frustrating, thought Sony were meant to be good ?

The guy advised I play on my PS3 for the time being, hahaha, troll

Ho Ho Ho

Did you buy direct from Sony...

If not then your contract of sale is with Game not sony.
They are responsible NOT sony.

I bought from Game, I took the console back to game, I spoke to a manager and they said I have to contact their "what happens next team" I did so and they gave me a reference, I then had to contact Sony, Sony do nothing with this reference number and generate there own and book a collection so the "what happens next team" aren't needed at all in this case.

Game take no responsibility what so ever, They have no spare consoles to offer replacements. I also posted on there FB page asking if them not issuing a refund for a faulty console is even legal and they have yet to reply.

I personally believe Game sold it Game as responsible, that's not the case apparently according to the staff at the manger at Game.

mine makes a vibrating type noise when accessing bluray - think its just the drive going fast and the case vibrating on the shelf.....

Hope you took photos of it before you sent it! :P

Aside from the bizarre route of going via sony, at least sony have paid to have it sent to them, and I don't see any thing wrong with them checking for evidence of it being dropped.

Mine isn't just vibrating dude it sounds like it is chewing the disk to pieces as well as vibrating very loudly, the disks don't come out scratched though but if I carried on using it its only a mater of time before a £50 game disk gets ruined.

I will be taking photos before it goes back tomorrow, I agree with the checking of the unit too however I wouldn't of accused a customer of potentially dropping the unit before inspecting said unit,

If I bought a system from overclockers which was damaged and I phoned to have it collected and looked at, I don't believe overclockers would accuse me of dropping it, the courier yes, not me the customer though, not without evidence.

Your contract is with GAME, not Sony. Personally, I'd go back into GAME and demand a full refund. A refund which you are fully, and legally, entitled to regardless of what some shop monkey says.

*Providing they don't replace it or repair it within a reasonable time.

Rough deal imo. I can see if you'd had it for a while that they'd want to get it checked out but if it happened as soon as you got it I'd expect Game to do a straight swap or refund.

Sounds like the Xbox One problem where they had been knocked in transit and it had knocked one of the gears out in the Blu Ray drive. People were just hitting the bottom of the console (Xbox One) and it seemed to fix it, wouldn't advise it with a PS4, though.
