Sorry for the long post, trying to give as much detail as possible:
I'm using an Asus P5K Deluxe and E6850 overclocked to 3.79Ghz - it doesn't boot at 3.8 :|.
Last week I bought 4GB Crucial Ballistix PC8500 C5 as a replacement for 4GB Crucial Ballistix PC5300 C3 which I've moved into another rig. I had the 5300 RAM running at 1050Mhz (using a divider when running at 420x9), 5-5-5-15 and 2.2V with no problems and was even able to run 472x8.
I decided on the PC8500 simply as it was the same price as the 6400 when on offer, I'm a little bit nervy about overclocking PC5300 by such a margin even though Crucial RAM is excellent for that and I don't want to be buying more RAM for a long time.
Anyway, since putting my PC8500 RAM in yesterday I found myself unable to boot at 472x8 and when booting for the first time at 420x9 (same timings, frequency and voltage as above) I got a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSOD. After that it was fine all evening. However, as I frequently do I left my computer downloading various files overnight and came to it this morning to find it had rebooted. I left it on whilst at work, again downloading, and came home to find it had rebooted at 9am and had suffered another BSOD though it didn't specify which one in the Event Log.
I haven't tested the sticks individually yet, I'm currently sitting here with my PC5300 in to see if it happens again overnight which would therefore rule out the new RAM as the problem. However, could anyone tell me whether they think I've got at least one stick of faulty RAM or if it could be something else I'm not thinking of?
Thanks for reading and any help that may come my way.
