Hey Guys, wondering if someone can help me.

I just got some RAM for christmas, it's Corsair DDR3 8GB (2x4GB) CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 and am experiencing problems.

The computer will not boot, no POST or anything. All i'm getting is a black screen and constant restarting/looping every few seconds.

I've changed all the voltage, timings etc in BIOS to the recommened for the new RAM but nothing.

Putting my old RAM back in and all fine again. Any ideas? thanks.

Try the other stock just in case.

Edit: can try doing a CMOS reset and trying from there, you will loose all setting which you have adjusted in the past.

Ok thanks, I will give that a go tomorrow and post again on the result. When you say CMOS reset do you mean remove the battery? if so, how long would I need to leave it out?

Does your old ram boot the system?

Yes, using my old RAM everything is as usual and works fine.

If your old ram works and your new stuff doesnt, surely it has to be the ram. so if you have that ram, which i think is the same as mine. You have 2 sets . so just test 1 set in slot 2 and 4 then the other in slot 2 and 4. You may well find one set works properly and other has problems. I had to send a set back only last week to be replaced

I had that symptom before, it was faulty ram on my old pc. There is normally a jumper that you need to move and return to its original position after a few seconds, remember to unplug from the mains.

What BIOS are you on? I swear earlier this year i had to update an AMD Gigabyte board following similar symptoms.

I'm using F8 BIOS which seems to be the latest on the Gigabyte site.

Thanks, I didn't realise there was a jumper. I'll have a look see if I can find it.
