So, I received my U2711 today (not from OcUK) which keeps turning itself on and off. It does this even when there's nothing connected to the monitor and when using a different plug socket and in a different room - and obviously it also does it while the DVI cable is plugged in. It'll run for anything from 2-10 minutes before powering off and instantly turning itself back on. I was hoping there was something stupid I'm doing here...

Any ideas?

I would have suggested a driver problem but you say you have run it with nothing connected.

It sounds faulty to me. Give Dell warranty a call and they will sort you out quickly. What a downer to a nice long bank holiday weekend, gutted for you.

Thanks, I've called Dell, who have told me they're only open 9-6 so will have to try again tomorrow. I imagine because it's a bank holiday weekend, this isn't going to get sorted out quickly. The company I've bought it from is based in Hampshire, so I'm hoping they'll maybe let me drive this monitor down and swap it.

Out of curiosity, what kind of driver problem? I've just tried powering it on now and it stayed on (with nothing connected)... so I'm wondering if it is some conflict with the PC.

I had some problems with my Nvidia drivers ages ago, they kept randomly resetting the monitor resolution which caused the screen to go off and on again. Once all the windows updates were done and the latest nvidia drivers were installed it seemed to correct itself.

It might be worth trying a different PC or perhaps a games console via HDMI to see if the problem still exists.

Stupid question but are you sure it's not your power settings or screen saver settings? It's possible that it's set to go to a blank screen after a short time of inactivity. Might be worth unplugging your KB/mouse and seeing if the screen comes on again once it powers down.

I seem to have fixed it, god knows how, but it's been on for a good while now.

EDIT: Just as I post this, it starts again.
