just recently got a saphire x1800xt 256mb, and have been playing oblivion happily. but i have started to get BSOD's and VPU recovers happening on a regular basis. So i changed back to the 6.3's loaded up a multiplayer game of AOE3 and 40mins in VPU recover again. Also happens when starting Steam based games aswell. thing is this seems to have developed since i got the new card (about a week ago).

Is this a hardware fault or something driver related?

Have you ever thought of turning those off as most of the time those cause crashes for no dam reason what so ever.

try it and if your games still crash then erm i dunno heh

well i have a Tagan 530w, the GPU temp is showing as 55 degrees in the overdrive facility. But i have noticed the Fan doesn't seem to be running very fast at all, when i first got it it seemed a lot louder than it doe now.

turn what off exactly?

I have the exact same card and have been having similar problems, but mine only appear when I turn my pc on. About half the time I log on, the screen goes black, the 'no signal' message appears, the fan on the gfx card spins loudly, then I get my normal desktop. The rest of the time I get either a black screen or blue screen and I have to restart, which is a pain.

I've had my card a bit longer than you, but mine's also done it from the start.

Not sure what to do about it really, I might give overclockers a call tomorrow to see if I can rma it.

Ben

edit: just remembered my card is a connect3d, but it has the same core etc, just a different sticker on it!

its normal behaviour for an ati card. ;)

It's also normal for Cyber-Mav to troll every thread?

When you say it's running at 55 degrees is that at max load?

It was running at 55 just after i came out of a game, i think.

I played Oblivion earlier and it lasted 10-20mins before it hung (had to hard reset machine) but i have been playing COD2 and RTCW most of the day (hosting a LAN atm :P ) and it seemed fine.

I would probably look to finding a way of looking at the max temps in game just in case, there are some different programs that allow you to do this. Perhaps someone who uses one can post the name, I use my LCD for this purpose.
