I've got some logi z5500's hooked up too my rig (below) and within the past few days, I've been getting lots of snap/crackle/pot coming through the speakers. Strangly, this stops if I disconnect the lead from the on-board ports to the logi pod. I haven't made any changes to the system recently. Any thoughts as to what could be causing this?

Thanks

I've never understood why people use pc speaker solutions seperates
av reciever all the way. They last 15-20 years too.

I would suggest you to disconnect it from the computer and connect it to a different source such as iPod or a CD player. If the problems still persist then there's a high chance your set is faulty. Are you using on-board soundcard as this was what happened to me with loads of cracking/noises, if you are ditch it ASAP :p Get some decent Creative stuff.

Known problem with the Z5500's. On the logitech support pages there is a number to call for a replacement set. They have now supposedly fixed the issue.

My Z5400's have started popping and banging. If I tap the top of the control box the static noise and hissing dies down. Then all of a sudden with a bang it returns.

Get the z-680, there as good as the z-5500, but as there quite a few years old now, and hardly anywhere stock them, they will be rock solid cos all the bugs will be fixed. Im sure you could find a set if you looked hard enough.

Why? 0_o, its not like there better quality, just cheaper...., there exatly the same apart from the sub is smaller..

the satellites are different. I believe the system sounds better as a whole, but there isnt much in it. Certainly the "sub is bigger" isnt a relevant argument when comparing the two sets.

Well it does put out more bass than the Z680, people have compared them side by side and in the oppinion it provides more bass, but really its obvious, bigger enclosure, bigger driver O_o, but the sattelites are still 3" tangband's, they cant be that much different, If I can find a Z680 set in the UK for £100 I will get one maybe, they used to be £120 on Amazon when I last seen them but Amazon dont do them anymore.

Still, I dont see how the Z680's sound much better, I mean, sure they may be Different drivers form Tangband, but there preety much the same by the looks of it except and It wouldent be surprising to see they have similar specs, maybe its the enclosures?

Well I turn the system up vvvvv loud, and I at least need bass thats able to be heard normally at the loud levels.

People say that the 680s have too much bass, I dont understand that cos you just turn the bass down, or am I missing something here?

I Think thats a good point if it makes you turn the bass down, so when you have the 680s at high volume the bass will still sound great. I have my 680s sub set to a quarter volume. The default for the sub is half, and that is way too bass, great for gunfire tho, it rattles the windows :D

Also Ive never had mine at full volume cos starts hurting the ears when i get over 75% volume. :D They still still sounds really clear at high volume too. It beats my crappy hifi for sound quality 10times over.

Edit: Remember to let them run in for 2 weeks or so before turning up the volume or you will knacker the drivers. I gave mine about 3 weeks before cranking up the vol.

I dont think you need to run logitech systems in, I mean I cranked mine to full in the first 5 mins of them been set up, still working fine now :)

You've been lucky then, cos when speakers are new, the drivers dont move easy and needs a breaking in period to get the drivers loose.. putting them at high vol when there brand new could tear the flexi bit around the driver, if that makes any sense?

Yea I understand, but aint speakers been broken in when they were at the factory, I mean I must have been twice as lucky as my first set went up full when I got it too, and I heard that when a Speaker has been broken in, if they aint used for a certain amount of time, they return back to there normal state or something?

Plus its good for the amp too the breaking in period, cos some ppl who has had the 680s crank up the vol stright away when getting them, and wonder why there knackered in 5mins.

breaking in stuff i dont believe in. warming up, yes, but thats totally different. speakers, including subs, will be stress tested before they are sent out. Yes they may well loosen up over time but its not essential to take it easy with them for any length of time.
