Waiting for your favorite band/s to a release a new record is exciting, especially when you've waited several years, the anticipation and excitement that builds up in the months/weeks prior to release, then the feeling you get when listening to it for the first time when finally released, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and sends shivers down your spine. Atleast this is how it makes me feel.
This year my three favorite bands Iron Maiden, Slayer and Tool are all releasing a new studio album, I simply cannot wait, talk about spoilt! By favorite bands I mean I have all their releases and have been following them closely for years, for example I've been following Maiden and Slayer for 20 years. Anyway...
Slayer's first album with the original line up in 15 years is going to be something special, especially after reading about some of the 'working titles' of some of the tracks and should be out in the summer. Their last album, God Hates Us All is, IMO up there with Reign In Blood and Seasons In The Abyss as their best.
Iron Maiden's new record should be released around late summer. After Dance Of Death, which I consider to be one of Maiden's finest albums and probably their best stageshow (if you've seen the DVD 'Death On The Road' you'll know what I mean), I'm reckoning this will be even better as it's the 3rd album with Bruce since he returned, just a feeling I get.
As for Tool, well all Tool fans have been waiting a long time for something new (as usual), and for me it's excitement coupled with apprehension. We know it's going to be good, but just how good? Something special? Probably. But is it always a good idea to wait 5 years to release something? We'll see.
So there you have it, this year couldn't be better for me, musically.
Are you lot looking forward to anything special musically, are your favorite bands releasing new material or touring this year and are you too over-excited about it?
If not, no matter, but what music are you looking forward to this year??? Anything goes!
