hi,
i am thinking of getting a fax machine, or some kind of way to retrieve faxes on my computer.

it would be handy to receive fax'ed documents from clients rather than just post

anyone got any experience/tips/advice when it comes to this? i seem to remember on dial up days that you could retrieve faxes with a 56k modem?

can you run fax and phone on the same land line number?

I'm sure there are services out there that will give you a number people can fax to and it comes into your email inbox.

err, if you have Win XP Pro you can receive faxes to your machine by plugging a line in to a modem. PCI modems are pence these days.

Alternatively, Vista busienss / enterprise has this feature too but it can be added to Home Premium if you goggle around. Alternatively, fire up a XP Pro virtual machine.

You can fax to a normal landline but cant fax and phone at the same time. :)

what happens if someone is faxing, and someone else tries to call you? just hear engaged tone?

i dont really use my landline at all, its only there for the internet really so this shouldn't be a problem

A fax call is just a normal phone call - but with a computer/fax machine playing weird noises at your computer/fax machine.
