FC4 fails to start

Greetings.

A recent hardware issue with my rig has meant a rebuild was needed. I restored my system image without issue and all works except FC4. All the files are there in the same place they were before. UPlay updated itself as normal but FC4 simply reports the game will not start and that I need to check the installation. When trying to verify the game files I get a report that this is not possible.

Having had numerous issues with this game, already needing me to download it three times I am loathed to do it again. I have the game files backed up but they are useless as Uplay does not allow file restoration like Steam does - to my knowledge.

Anyone have an idea?

when i reloaded i did this after searching the ubisoft forum
hope this helps

shut down uplay, go to C:/Program files (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher/data/420 - you'll see folder "manifest" and file " uplay_install.state" - remove/rename them both.

open uplay and it should say play instead of install

Where did you buy your copy of FC4?

There's a rumor floating about that Ubisoft is blocking keys purchased from un-authorized sellers!

got mine from g2a. though i wonder how they know what keys to block

I got mine from CJS CD Keys.

I deleted the file and was met with the message, Download your game. On restoring the file, I am back to Unable to start.....

Ok an update. FC4 runs fine from the exe, but not directly from Uplay. Uplay still whines it is missing etc. When I run the exe, it opens uplay and the game as normal. There appears to be an update for FC4 but of course as uplay cannot see the game the update is not available.

Yes but only the "uplay_install.state" as there is no manifest folder . If I do so then uplay only says download. With the files present uplay says play but does not load.

It's not a rumour, it is true. I bought a key from CD Keys (a well above board site I believe) and have had my key banned. I only had the game 3 days.

Good job CD Keys have great CS as they gave me a refund within minutes. Ubisoft however, still haven't even responded to my ticket.
