I have a pretty big problem, whenever I try and launch Fear 3 from Steam, my PC goes nuts and gets a BSoD, then proceeds to restart. I've googled this and all it says it 'lolreinstall' when I have never even played it yet.

Is this the evolution of developers, producing games that kill your hardware? Lolololol.

The reason is nothing to do with hardware damage afaik, more to do with e.g. if an unattended computer goes down you might want it to bring itself back online.

The BSOD will (hopefully) give some indication as to where the underlying problem lies; in the modern day and age it is pretty rare for BSOD to be down to the application that triggered it, it is far more likely to be due to a hardware fault or driver issue that doesn't manifest itself until the application (in this case FEAR3) does something.

Wouldn't that damage my hardware? I thought it restarts for a reason. :p

Not at all, it's just an unrecoverable OS error - probably caused by drivers. It restarts because the OS cannot recover, and the OS requires a restart in order to work correctly.

I've fixed it guys, just had to update my motherboards BIOS as the Steam DRM crashes a lot of AMD processors on certain titles. This update fixes them all and hopefully this doesn't happen again. :)

If it happens again restore your gfx card to default if you still have it overclocked cause the same happened to me cause my processor wasn't set at the right voltage for the overclock. All my games would crash within an hour, bsods and lockups.

I had OC'd my 6850, but nothing extreme, just 815 GPU Clock & 1030 Mem Clock, it was running tons of games fine, didn't touch it and then this happened. It wasn't the OC it was the Steam DRM which has been fixed with a BIOS update.

glad you fixed it, hope you wont be as disappointed with the game as I am.

Thanks mate, but your disappointed with it? I've only completed the Prison mission and loving it, its a solid shooter with beautiful mechanics, the graphics aren't anything special but its the first decent looking game I've played in a while that has run absolutely perfectly, constantly 50fps and not a single stutter. It isn't as scary as I'd hoped so far, a lot of the 'scares' just seem like cheap tricks to try and get the player to jump, but in this day and age its pretty difficult to scare people in new ways. :p

So far its a lot scarier than Amnesia anyway, what a let down that was, but yeah, so far its just a solid shooter IMO. I'm not going into it expecting anything extreme, I picked it up for a fiver in a Steam deal and don't regret it one bit, wouldn't of regretted it if I had got it for the original £12.99 either. Shame its getting slated so much by everybody, its a lot better than Call of Duty, although I haven't tried the Multiplayer out yet, but its a better single player experience so far.

going to be buying this for my kids
