i know its old but im getting into pc gaming and i am playing these games i missed out on.

For some reason during the end of the in game test when the barrel explodes its drops my fps to 20 to 30s with a 4870 x2 it should not be doing that surely or have i missed something?

My average for the test was 70 maxium was 90 this is with vsync on, if i try it off fps are still low when barrel explodes.

Barrel explosions are typically very CPU intensive (due to large numbers of particle and shadow calculations), I suspect that is where the bottleneck lies in that part of the benchmark.

What does your minimum FPS say?

How can i get a bottleneck with a e8400??? cpu should rip fear 1 apart.

Minium ranges from 20 to 30 i average fine 70 mainly just curious as to why the barrel slowed me down.

My e8400 is clocked at 3.6 also.

Aye, on the rig in my sig, I never dipped below 40 I think it was and averaged about 50. There might be something wrong with drivers, or is it throttling?

So why the hell is it dropping low when the barrel explodes?

Running 9.3 drivers first time install.

Rest of my spec is up to the standard.

Have you patched fear, got latest drivers for your pc?

Does it lag in game when you destroy barrels (can get fraps to draw a graph)?

I have the gold edition so its fully patched.

I downloaded all drivers for my board off the cd i have latest catalyst drivers 9.3 its first time install so not had to use driver sweeper.

Fraps even showed it dropping down to 20s to 30s at the same time as the in game test.

Dont think it lags in game when barrels are blown up not sure nads do not cause issues when they explode.

It actually was not the processor i think i had the res on 1024 by mistake it still get crap minium god what the hell is wrong with this.

wasn't there a prob with this and Xfire, and you had to rename the exe to get it to use both cores, although i think that was fixed in later drivers.

I tried to replay FEAR recently and had some weird FPS issues on my 4870 1GB. This was using the 9.1 drivers however. Perhaps there's some driver issue.
