Played the demo and for some reason have pre ordered it.

it's kind of fun and does make you jump in some places

Got this game, installed on xp and vista, on vista eax and hw mixing is off and blanked out. Vista doesn't support eax??

Unimpressed with graphics, the original fear looked much better.

Of course it does. Your current Audio drivers don't.

What soundcard are you using, and what drivers?

X-Fi Extreme music, latest Vista 32 drivers.

EAX requires DirectSound3D HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) which vista lacks, and that is why the EAX options are blanked out, it's not Creative's fault because their drivers work perfectly. You will need to download the Creative Alchemy which translates the DirectSound signal to OpenAL to have the full sound effects in Vista. The software is free for X-Fi users.
