I have just bought a 3800 X2 and completed a fresh xp pro install. I then put fear on and patched it, the game was playing perfect on previous settup (3700SD, 1GB corsair 4400, bfg NF4 mobo, bfg7800gt. Only change 3800X2) The game was stuttering badly and when I looked at the mem usage their was 768MB free but for sum reason fear was using the page file and cahing the entire game. have googled but nada so for, any help would be great. btw think this may be happening in bf2 aswell.

try turning down the texture details. fear really requires 2GB of ram. Depiste me to soon be upgrading to an x1800XT and so on, I am also going to be grabbing 2GB of ram.

*EDIT*

sorry mate I misread what you wrote, still try turning down the texture size anyway. and use FRAPS or something to find your average FPS.

What size is your pagefile at?

Does this also happen with games other than FEAR and BF2, and with normal use? You could test the latter simply by constantly dragging a window around and see if it stutters. I had such a problem a few days ago which I managed to solve by a fresh install of Windows, and avoiding the need to install some programs. Or maybe it was just down to pure luck :p

Hello, thanks for the replies, yeah I thought about the texture settings but its the same when it worked perfectly on my 3700SD, the page file is set to the win default 1536mb for system of 1gb. I also installed the win dualcore hotfix and reg edit. bf2 works now, probably due to the overclock (2600Mhz 10X260, prime stable) It has me beat as i've never seen a app use the page file when there is so much free system ram avalible. I bought the 3800X2 as I destroyed my SD by taking the shim of with a penknife  doh.... oh and its a brand new install.
