Fear xp runs like crap!

Girlfriend bought me fear extraction point for christmas and ive finally got round to start playing it but the game runs like a dog! Never had any problems running fear with the same settings but in XP its dropping down to 11fps in places!! :mad:

Is there a patch or a fix of some sort that im missing? :confused:

have you got a widescreen monitor by any chance? i do and i cant seem to get FEAR extraction point working on it, even changing the config file to 1440x900 it stays at 640x480

no im using a 19" crt. Fear runs great, the in game performance test gives me an average fps of 90 and 42 as the lowest but when i play Fear extraction point the performance is pretty poor. In small rooms and corridors etc the game runs fine but in more open areas, particuarly on the level set in the underground car park the performance is very poor and runs at like 20fps or less for most of the level :mad:

not good for fighting big walking robot things!

Trust me the performance test is way, WAY too undemanding. When I first started setting the game up, I chose settings which gave a MIN fps of over 50fps in the benchmark on my 3800+/1gig PC3700 cas2/7900gtx level system.

However right in the first level it was dropping as low as 25fps so I got tweaking a bit more. Think I settled for 1280x960 with a mix of settings (shadows etc off, medium textures etc, some other stuff up high).

IMO a good rule of thumb is to halve whatever the min fps you get on the benchmark for something close to a realistic figure. i.e. you want to get min FPS 60 to ensure framerates never drop under about 35.

yeah i get what your saying but Extraction looks no better than FEAR except is runs bad in camparison. Are they any patches out for Extraction Point that im missing? couldnt find anything when i searched google yesterday

Odd, XP runs fine here as good as the original here.
It should run fine with your rig.
Got all newest drivers and patchs installed?

yeah got latest drivers and got latest patch for fear, 1.8. Cant find any patches for xp so i guess thats upto date.

Just finished the game now, all the hospital section at the end ran fine but the part before it where you make you way up the levels and jump across the broken bridges to get to the otherside was running at about 18fps all the time. What fps are you lot getting in this section if you know where i mean??

I did notice a strange thing in FEAR XP where my system would suddenly go slow for no apparent reason, and the only way I could fix this was by rebooting. Not sure if it's down to texture memory leakage or something like that.

NB: I'm fairly sure this wasn't due to hardware throttling.

It runs fine for me. The only time i got a fps drop was at the very start when you wake up from the crash, apart from that it has been fine.

the OG FEAR refuses to run above 14fps no matter what settings for me , quite annoying so ill never play it or the expansion!
