yo guys,

bought an ocuk bundle i3 @ 4.2 ghz. the problem is it blue screens.

when it first happened, phoned ocuk, they told me to up voltage. the system was fine for a while. then it happened again (note it always happens when playing quakelive which cannot be the most intense computer game ever as its based on quake 3 which is 10 years old), to which i got told up voltage again.

then it didnt happen for a while. then it happened, and i got told to up the voltage again (all by ocuk representatives).

so guys, it has happened again. i must be currently at 1.4 or just over that. any suggestions?

its weird how it is ok after upping voltage then it happens again. i am really tempted to try and rma the whole thing.

suggestions? i have not done any stress testing myself cept for running prime95 for 10 mins

How long have you had the system ?
What are your Temps like ?
What PSU are you using & do you have another to test ?
What case is the bundle in ?
How is the cooling ?

Just to say, Don't panic crap like this happens when you are running cutting edge tech.
You've come to the right place & there are Plenty of willing helpers about.

had the system around a month

temps under load are max 55. idle like 22-25.

OcUK 450W Dual-Rail High Efficiency Power Supply is the psu
i do not have another :(

cooling. 1 fan on gpu. heatsink on cpu
1 ingres 1 egress on case.

the case is the antec gaming 300 case.

below is the ocuk bundle i purchased.

any ideas guys?

It will be the psu. That model is about as stable as a toddler, who was just had there stablisers taken of there bike for the first time.

It's not often I slate a product but that PSU is Budget & I don't do budget PSU's. I'd try to borrow another PSU & try that if I was you.
Where are you located as there may be a friendly member local to you that can help.

Edit.
You could get a volt metre & test the rails.

manchester based. so do you think ocuk will accept a return on this seeing as though it isn't up to the job?

also guys if you could recommend a psu that would be great! yes i did go for a cheap option with this psu :/

I don't know mate as we on the Forums are Not connected to the shop we just support the shop with our custom & some give helpful advice out here.
It would be unfair to expect them to exchange it & accept it isn't up to the job without it being tested or your system being tested with another.
We really need somebody local to you to pop a PSU round so you can have a quick test.

Edit.
What am I on about. You need a volt metre to test the rails. Buy or borrow one.

The OcUK 450w PSU is no where near in the league of power you need for a 4.2GHz bundle.

The PSU is a budget entry level PSU
The 4.2GHz bundle is a high end bundle

You will need to match appropriate components for the bundle to operate properly. We state you will need a high power quality PSU such as the Corsair HX & TX series.

I'd recommend opting for a 650W Corsair or a new OCZ StaelthXStream II 600w to power that bundle. Then your issue will be solved.

thanks for your help guys!

That's what we're here for but it's always nice when you get a Thank you.

I'd go with the Corsair 650w as recommended above it's an outstanding PSU highly rated on these boards & runs a lot more than your system without an effort.
Don't forget to sell the old PSU to offset the cost & Good Luck. :)

Then perhaps the product description for the OcUK value 450W PSU should not begin: "This 450W PSU is designed for high end systems that require a lot of power."

;):p

So his i3 rig with a 5770 is more power hungry than my C2Q rig with a 5850? Somehow i don't think so. My rig pulls a max of 274w at the wall and even then only if running Prime and Fur stability test at the same time. I can't see his pulling that much and i thought the new cpu's were supposed to be more energy efficient anyway?

It is a cheap and nasty psu though. PSU is the one thing that should never be skimped on.

just read the page "This 450W PSU is designed for high end systems that require a lot of power. "

LOL
that needs changing to This 450W PSU is designed for Low end systems that require a unstable amount of power.

that would be better :)

and for £35 i wouldnt expect much
