Ive got a problem with it again it now wont autoprotect my computer so im vunerable and i cant turn it on cause it wants to liveupdate. I try it but it does not work and says my subscription ended in 1989 WTF!!

Im really considering thinking of getting a different antivirus and firewall software but i dont know any other apart from panda thats meant to be rubbish

where can i get a copy of nod32 and what is it a antivirus or firwall or is both :)

zonealarm ive had a look at and i see that theres a pro version i can buy which is a firewall and also i can buy an antivirus.

So what should i do, plz help me rid of norton, am i being a bit hasty as ive never had a virus get through my firewall but i dont like the problems im having. Just to make me feel a bit more better plz give reasons why i shouldnt keep norton, on my gaming beast :)

Works fine for me, havnt used a firewall since i got one, and not had issues/problems whatsoever.

Who me?

Caught out by who?....... people port scanning?.......

Most victims become victims because they make it easy to become one. I had more problems when i use to run software Firewalls then i ever have since having a router, that for me speaks for itself.

dumb me ive got a router but i didnt know it acted like a firewall :p
Its a netgear router only had it for about 5 months.

But i think ill still get a firewall though just in case.

TBH, your being a bit naive and ignorant.

I'm in the mood for anologies at the moment so here goes:

You leave a spare key to your front door under a plant pot on your door step. Youu think your safe, nobody has found it yet and burgled you, but it is really easy for them to do so.

Your in a false sense of security.

I'm trying to be constructive, if you don't want a firewall then don't get one, but at least know the risks.

BTW, a router will only protect you if it's configured properly and has NAT enabled.

plz recommend a firewall plz noble burnsy
your analogy was cute :p ;) ;)
I'm not noble, burnsy or cute but I use Zone Alarm Pro. Some people reckon it interferes with their gaming or something but I've been alright so far.

\touch wood ;)

The free version of Zone Alarm seems to dislike wireless connections. On my notebook it'd crash when trying to connect wirelessly, and after a few hours on my PC, it seems to stop most internet traffic on the wireless connection. If I turn off ZA, it's all fine again. It worked fine when I was connected with a network cable.

Some routers seem to have better firewalls than others too. Netgear routers are very solid, but here in our student house we're on a crappy Belkin one, and even with the firewall enabled, my ZA still reports intrusion attempts. Useless.

At least use the Windows firewall. Having no software firewall at all is asking for trouble.

Well i uninstalled norton internet security and i was like wow on how fast my pc became and now ive got nod32 the 30 day free trial on my computer and windows firewall on is my pc safe now :)

I hear ya mate, but what exactly am i open to?...... perhaps you'd like to give me an example?

Routers do have port filtering, its not hard to block out any ports you don't want accessed, any person that knows how to use a router properly knows how to configure it so.

A hardware firewall kicks a software firewall in the teeth anyday.

Add that to properly configured group policies and admin accounts correctly locked down, and in truth, there's not much you're open to.

I could very well be wrong, but perhaps you'd like to do a demo?..... i can email you my IP, and its all yours to have a bash at playing with, mind you if you do get in, behave yourself! :P......

I love being proved wrong, because its nice to learn something new, so please do so..... ;)

I use ZoneAlarm Pro (Firewall + AV) and I'm very happy with it. Low resources, reasonable scans and I'm happy. I don't think it's as reliable as Nod32 but for £20 for an AV + Firewall it's very good. Low resources as well :D

Cost me £21 for a single year for NOD32.

Works out £1.75 a month, i thinks that a bargain considering how brilliant it works for me. One thing i will say about it though, is it doesnt really work in the same manner as the traditional AV programs like Norton or Mcafee, but once you get use to how it works you'll find it excellent to use, or at least i found it that way.
