This hasnt always been an issue on my AOL line, but I can't pinpoint when it started. It may coincide with my upgrade to MaxADSL.. which has earnt me about 0.5megs on my connection speed.. I've also moved to Windows 7 when the RC came out.

Anyway, download speed, stability, general performance is fine.. at all times. No issues. Except when I try to play games. Both L4D and ARMAII give me high pings in-game for no apparent reasons other than the time of day. (I havnt tested CSS recently, but during my L4D days CSS was fine, whereas L4D was not).

So I rang AOL and they told me to change my MTU size on my netgear DG834G, which is now sat at 1450 compared to 1492 IIRC before.

Does anyone have any thoughts on anything I could try? Or shall I go back to AOL and get them to line check me. We've had this AOL account for years so we shouldnt have any contractual obligations, although they will probably claim our MaxADSL upgrade is a new contract..

Any help is much appreciated.

It should be 1400 for AOL, though given how awful AOL/CPW have got it's unlikely you'll get anywhere without getting rid of them.

Guess it could be that they've activated interleaving on your line if you've upgraded to maxdsl recently and the troubles started then.

I had it on mine and would consistantly ping ~60-80ms in games. Called pipex up and got it turned off and back down to 20-30ms.

It does mean that if your a fair distance from the exchange then you could get more frequent disconnects but i'm never experienced a problem at all since having it done.

Ok, I will speak to them tonight about interleaving, but I can imagine how that conversation goes.. hopefully get someone with some knowledge!

I don't think my line is very happy at its current Max speed (syncs between 1.8 and 2.2). It was fine when it was 1meg.

Thanks guys.
