Hey all , just wondering if anyone here has used Fedora 11 , and wanted to ask your Opinions on it , i got a Fedora 11 DVD with septembers issue of Linux Format , just wanted to know if it was worth taking Ubuntu off and switching to this.

Regards
Tabasco.

i just tried it for the past week, but it wasnt too good in terms of niggling bugs it has that still havent been fixed. stick to ubuntu or if you really want to try something new go try crunchbang or arch

Ubuntu is windows-like distro. It's mainly targeting users without deep linux knowledge. Fedora on the other hand is a nice playground for RH's devs and comes with lots of experimental stuff.

Try both and select the one you like the most!

Not much in it really Ubuntu will always be more mainstream and more stable as its based around the Debian distro.

Fedora will always look better for the first day or so, but eventually you will realise its a cutting edge unstable turd under the hood and go back to Ubuntu.

Personally I hate Fedora with a passion. v11 does at least boot reasonably quickly (but no faster than Ubuntu 9.04 IMHO. I'd give it a wide birth if I was you.

Fedora -> You enjoy a non rolling release cutting edge distro with millions of little problems
Ubuntu -> You just cant resist reinstallign every 6 months just like windows (Sorry you can upgrade but if you have any non standart packages say byebye)
Mint -> You couldnt figure out Ubuntu so you blame everyone but you
Debian -> You love democracy
Arch -> You have too much spare time
Gentoo -> -O3 club, you have even more time than the above
Puppy -> You have no money
DSL -> Even less money
OpenSuse -> You love complex GUIs and hate command line
RHEL -> You love paying for something you can get for free
CENTos -> You've nearly given up with linux and its constant new features
Mandriva -> You're french.

There is nothign wrong with the french. I am french myself, but i mean apart from if you really want an excellent french translation why use mandriva??

Feel free to feel offended, I don't care. And also feel free to add to my list! People seem to have replaced religions with linux distros.

Gentoo -> -O3 club, you have even more time than the above

-O2 I would've thought for most people, and in my experience it's a very easy distribution to maintain once installed*

*as long as you're careful about using packages marked with '~' for stability, and as long nothing breaks, and make sure to read the instructions and learn how to ask the right questions if something does break and there are usually readily available solutions that can be read in links or lynx or whatever if you don't have X, but really it's a very fun distribution if you don't mind a potentially painful & frustrating learning curve that is ultimately very rewarding for certain types and is loads of fun really ... my favourite distribution :)
