Hi guys,

I am going to build a PC for my brother who needs this computer for listening to music (has a good stereo so a good sound card is needed?) watching 1080p-movies(on his 37 inch LCD-TV) and just surf on the internet...

What i had in mind of getting him is this:

Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail

Asus P7P55D-E Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX)
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)
Corsair CX 500W ATX Power Supply (CMPSU-500CXUK)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB DDR2 PCI-E Graphics Card Low Profile

Xigmatek Asgard Midi Tower Case - Black

Subtotal: 482£ (his limit is 500£-ish)

what do you think?
is it good enough?
will the soundcard on the mobo be enough?
is 500w enough for this setup?

Im grateful for any kind of feedback, thanks in advance :)

Cheers,
Divone

Does he really want fans whining in the background while watching films or listening to music?Head over to silentpcreview, both their forums and their website. Nothing you listed in the OP requires a fast quad core, so I'd suggest a lower power dual core which it will be much easier to run quietly.

Not sure a dedicated graphics card is useful either, perhaps a m-atx board with some form of graphics onboard, using a mini P180 case by Antec. A low energy processor can be cooled passively by using a large (or, actually, quite a small) heatsink, leaving you with a couple of slowly rotating case fans and a psu under so little stress that it may not spin it's fan at all.

I set up an office pc a while back using the above case, an e8400 and 400W corsair. Using the cheapest arctic cooling heatsink with the fan taken off. The processor will hit 80 under intel burn test, but it's never stressed that much in reality and it doesn't really mind being at 80 degrees anyway. Aside from a blue light on the front I can't tell it's on.

that build u put up before sounds great! will last for a few year ;) if he wants any gaming u could get an MSI hd5850 or GTX460 HAWK and get a spin point F3 1tb
