My graphics card blew up a couple of weeks ago and I'm going to make a purchase soon but just wanted to see what other people thought.
The parts that I'm keeping from my current system are:
Asus P5N-E SLI 650i Socket 775 MB
Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghz (stock)
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Cache
OCZ 6GB (2x1GB & 2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Platinum XTC Memory Kit CL4 2.1V
I'm looking to replace my old 8800GTS with a 5770. From what I've read, the 5770 seems to be the best card for the price. Not sure which to choose between the Asus CuCore card or the Sapphire Vapor-X card.
In terms of power supplies, the Corsair HX650 seems a pretty good choice. It's probably more than I need but I don't want to have to buy another power supply soon down the line if I plan to upgrade to crossfire for example.
My main area for suggestions is about going for a SSD. The OCZ Vertex 2E seem really good value for both size and performance. I was looking at the 60GB for Win7 boot with plenty of room for games and programs. My question is whether it's worth it going for the OCZ or just plumping with the Intel X25 40GB. I don't know how much a real world performance boost there would be by going for the Vertex 2E.
In terms of cases, I'd love to pick up a Corsair 800D but cannot justify the price really, and I also don't have the room for it. I've decided to go for the CM 690 II, love the all black interior / exterior and seems like a good case for air flow.
I'd like to overclock my CPU so decided to go for a H50 with a second fan for push/pull setup.
So really my main questions are about the graphics card and SSD upgrade but any other comments on the rest of my plans are welcome.
In terms of budget, I'm looking at around £600 - £700 which should afford me all the parts I've listed and with a little extra if need be.
