Feedback on these sites?

I'll give you a quick run-down of what I think of them:

Yorkshire Junkies
  • I'm not a great fan of this website based on the fact that the grid is weak, for example the right hand side navigation is not in-line with anything and while the two main red titles are in-line the text below sets this off again, I'm a massive fan of pristine typography and structure btw, it just helps with the flow and for readers, and it's now going to be a big part of my design in the future. In terms of colour, I prefer just off black such as #222 or even #111, because black reminds me of geocities and it's such a strong colour but no big problem here. I think you could have incorporated a feint background into this that might have added a bit to it like across the top, especially for those on high res's. Stupid point: I don't like the footer, the text needs room to breathe and the train track image doesn't look that sharp, not a massive fan of that.

But I think you should be proud of this website for the mass of content, content makes a website, anyone can make something that looks nice but in essence it's the content that makes it, and in that aspect this is a big success.

Steam Baths Saunas
  • I like this, purely because I like the fresh colours contrasted with a strong red, and the logo has really nice type. The header imagery you have used is not too obtrusive of the content and it adds colour and emphasis, overall a nice site. But, but I don't like your footer again :p. The black top border and dark grey make it look dated, and the underlines of the links would make people associate it with spelling mistakes which isn't the best look to go for, but a solid site and my favourite out of the lot.

Leeds Drum & Bass
  • Simple site, gets to the point although I'm not a fan of your kerning and grid here, it's nit picking but I nit pick lol, the first W and the Listen below don't look in-line and neither is the padding with the main text, no major problem at all for most though. The site offers what it offers and that's effective, the forum is well incorporated but again still not a fan of the footer, just needs a bit more padding, room to breathe from the content. :)

If you build on what you've designed here, and keep finding inspiration round the web and keeping up-to-date with trends and standards then you can definitely keep designing and not get a slating from me for doing it wrong :p

Thanks for your points mate. I'l take them into consideration and perhaps do a few tweaks. Trying an "off black" colour is something i've been meaning to do for a while.

The Steam Bath Sauna site was for a friend, and despite my pointers he wanted everything his way.

What do you mean by "grid"?

Worst example I can ever come up with but here, note the shockingly drawn lines lol:

More than just one element lines up, it may be subconscious but it's key to a well formed design, orderly and easy to read and follow around the page, imagine lines flowing from one section to the next, yours probably isn't as bad as I made it seem to be but there's just a couple of weak lines here and there, but it's all good.

Get working on nice footers :p
