Feedback/pointers on these designs?

Thought i'd knock up a little site to put my mixes, videos, information on where i'm playing next etc..

I've come up with the following so far:

My idea with this one was to have the icons along the top navigation. When you move your mouse over them, the page name displays to the left (where it currently says navigation). Excuse the images, they are just something I quickly took from istock whilst i'm playing around with ideas.

I might drop the left hand side navigation and perhaps have a Forthcoming Events list with just the date and event name. Then link those through to the events page?

With this one I decided to drop the navigation along the top. Again, the left hand navigation needs changing.

I thought about perhaps reducing the size of the icons and putting them to the left of the links?

Any feedback/ideas appreciated!

EDIT: I think perhaps the header is too big height wise too. My original idea was to have a different header for each page.

I prefer the first design. I like the little icons, look good.

I would probably add a small drop shadow down both sides, just to help distinguish it from the background.

I'l probably experiment with drop downs - hadn't thought of that.

Another idea was to float the site to the left and have a white background image with thick grey diagonal stripes for the rest of the body.

Any ideas for the navigation? I think thats letting it down most atm.

Might look better to the right though? Think i'd just have it on the homepage too.
