I miss them. I miss Feek and his acerbic wit.

In a kind of tribute to his legendary beer tasting threads, I present thee my Friday night relaxation remedy.

I am currently enjoying:

Badger- Golden Glory

' An award-winning premium ale, well balanced with distinctive bitterness and a delicate floral peach and melon aroma. Serve Chilled.

Legend states that the gift of peach blossom brings good fortune to the recipient. It seems to hold true today, as the subtle addition of extract of peach blossom to enhance the floral blend of aromatic and bitter hops has created an outright award-winning ale that is refreshing, charismatic and....absolutley glorious!'

It does smell delicious. Very peachy smell, almost schnapps like. I can see where they get the melon from but it is more peachy. The smell is deceptive though. The first taste is sweet and peachy but not overly so. There is a beautiful crisp bitter aftertaste making this an incredibly refreshing ale to quaff. Best enjoyed on a summers day I imagine.

Wouldn't fancy drinking lots and lots of this. One or two tops. It is getting a bit sickly sweet after half a pint of it. Not bad, but definately a refreshing summer beer as opposed to a session ale. 6.5/10

I know I posted in the otehr thread, but this should keep this one going:

I'll review them as I go. I've had a lot of them before.

Excellent, I'm looking forward to following this thread as the evening goes on. Keep up the good work. I might take a wander over to Sainsburys for a few bottles in a moment or two.

What's the best temperature for these ales to be drinked at?

I would say cool. Not ice cold like lager but somewhere just below room temp is ideal. I have whacked mine in the fridge to kick start them and then will put them in the utility room which is not heated to keep them cool.

Some people get very pedantic about temperatures etc but I just say get it in the glass and get it drunk. It's only bad if it is warm :)

Am just cracking open the Marstons Single Malt.

Damn they all look good :D Just had an innis and gunn myself, before than a bottle of pedigree and before that a nice newcastle brown ale :p
I always enjoy these threads :)

First off it's Abbot Ale. A nice little pint from Green King. I liked the bottle and that will be staying with my bottle collection (i'm sad I know). As for the beer, it's quite an easy going ale. A generally malty taste with a hint of bitterness. Also a very slight undercurrent of some fruityness there. Light on the stomach too, not that filling like some ales are. Alcohol content is decent too. Not too much, but certainly enough to be quite jolly after 3 or 4 :p .
I'd give it a 7.5/10. It's not an amazing brew. There are those that stand out from it clearly. But for an easy going evening without the beer being too heavy on the stomach, this is ideal. A pleasant taste. Perfect for a Friday night when coming home to relax from a week in the office :D.

More beers to follow after i've finished the rest of the Abbot.

' Marston's Single Malt- Brewed using 100% Golden Promise mal, one of the oldest varieties of brewing barley. This full-flavoured malt, popular with Scotch Whisky distillers, combines with fine English hops to produce a smooth, mellow beer. The resulting flavour is subtly different from any other with all the distinctiveness of a fine single malt whisky.'

The smell of this one is LOVELY. Really hoppy smell to it and nowhere near as overpowering as the Badger Golden Glory. The smell screams 'DRINK ME!'

On taking a swig of it, I was left disappointed. The beer is very flat with little to no carbonation. I think more carbonation would have brought the taste out some more. However, it is so so smooth it is like drinking silk. There is no bitterness and you are left with, as the label suggests, a very smooth and mellow beer. You could quite easily sink several pints of this over an afternoon before coming home to a fine roast dinner in front of the log fire. A perfect Autumn beer.

It tastes good but nothing to write home about. The choice of one malt means it is not a very complex taste. You get the one taste throughout the drink with no aftertaste or anything. Gets boring after a while but not offensive. Quite a pleasant beer that I could easily drink several pints of.

Like I say, a beer with a good start smell wise but let down by lack of carbonation and the boring taste. 5/10

Of those 5 I've only had the Daniel's Hammer - nice pint, nothing fancy but nothing to fault either, a good honest beer.

Next along we have ESB from the Fuller's brewery. Standing in at a respectable 5.9%, this is a challenging ale (3 UK units  ). I tore off the bottle cap and was greeted with that "old pub" smell. I poured it out into my tankard and it's a little darker than a lot of ales.
I took the first sip and knew straight off that this was a winner. It has a very unique taste that I haven't really experienced in any other ales. Like it says on the bottle, the best way I can really describe the taste is marmalade-like. It has a slight bitterness to it and a very complex and large amount of fruity flavours. But in no way is this a bad thing. It really is a unique and very good ale with a taste no other ales really have. This is the perfect brew to accompany your beef casserol or beef roast lunch. It is strong and fairly heavy going. It cannot be drunk pint after pint like lager. For this beer, you are here to savour the flavour and enjoy the experience.
8.5/10

Better take the rest of this one slightly slower, otherwise i'll be on the floor methinks ^_^

Bah, looks like I'm not going to make it to SannyB's, just had the car dropped off. Literally... see the other thread

Hogs Back T.E.A ale is nice and i only live 10mins from the brewery and can buy most of their beers in 9 pint containers draught
