I am having a problem with my main machine. Fresh installation of windows 8.1 and all updates.
issue is extremely slow browsing online. Downloads and streaming are perfect. Browsing sites sits for a good 5 to 10 seconds on resolving host. Tried different DNS settings and cleared the cache and reset hosts file and still the same.

Adapter is Realtek® 8111F, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller

Tried the standard driver and the specific driver from Asus.
Running a DWA140 wireless adapter and immediately the browsing is back to normal and when trying all the DNS settings I had previously confirmed none of them to be culprit.

I feel a bit of a proper noob right now as to what on earth is wrong with this network adapter. Anyone any ideas?

Yeh DHCP. Good shout on the cable as I replaced it and its working perfectly again. Looks like it might of got pinched and damaged by the table. :D

One of these is always a handy thing to have..

If you see here (same model, with better picture, but more expensive..)

You'll see how it works.

You connect up your cable to both ends of the tester, then turn it on, it will send power down the cable and if it's in tact, it will light up the other end, one pin at a time.

It's the most basic type of tester you can get, but it's useful for quickly writing off cables.

Just don't connect them up to your router/pc or any live hardware.
