Hey guys just wandering how long would my i7-930 (slightly overclocked) last me if it hits 90'c-95'c during gaming sessions? Lets say 4 hours a day on average!

That's way too hot. I personally wouldn't like to see my CPU going over 70 degrees. If it's only mildly overclocked you should look at your cooling - check your heatsink is mounted correctly, not too much paste, fans are running etc.

It's hard to say how long it'll last but at that temp it's definitely going to shorten it's life.

Well I upgrade every year so as long as it lasts that and by looking around on the web it should shorten the life span TO 10 years if all 4 cores were running at 100'c constantly!

Too hot. My i7 @ 4.2 on air hits mid 70's on full load at 1.35v.

What volts are you running? Stock cooling? If so any aftermarket cooler will take care of those temps.

The cpu automatically switches its self off if it hits 100 degrees C.

Check the mounting of your heatsink and possibly re-apply paste or just go back to stock and find a more comfortable frequency.

It just throttles it a bit till it reaches normal temps!

Looks like you're determined to find out for yourself how long it lasts regardless of what we all say. Good luck to you :)

Well no, but asking a question and getting told obvious stuff like "It's too hot"...

I know it's too bloody hot and not ideal to run at that temp, BUT I wanted to know if any one had any experience with the question I asked in the origional post!

The point is if it's that hot there is something wrong. If you are not overclocking you don't have your heatsink fitted correctly. If you are overclocking you need less volts or a better cooler. Running at those temperatures your rig will become unstable, and random crashes while gaming are never a good thing.

You're asking us to gauge how long a CPU will last basically.

Which we can't answer indefinitely but one thing is for sure, it's lifespan will be shortened.

How long is a piece of string ?
chop a bit off, now how long is that string ? You still don't know but you know its shorter than before.

Re-applied thermal paste and stuck 2 12cm fans at the top of the case! Highest it's been is 74'c while bashing out some BFBC2 online:D

Safe as houses now?

Not ideal though safe.
Was watching how it's made the other day, that all cpu's are baked at 140 degree's after being made, to check the solder joins; not sure if this is an old practice or not, as the show was a fair few years old.

volts are more killer then the heat, though heat is just as important.

put your pc in the fridge, wonder what overclocks you could get then :D
