Feeling Anger

Hi All

Im going to have a bit of a rant now.

I bought my Clio 172 from a Ford main dealer (Inchcape Wokingham) on 1st March. I paid £6999 for it. I p/xd my old punto and paid a deposit. They gave me the remainder on 0% finance. The car itself was exactly what I was looking for. Sept 01 registered on a 51 plate with 17k miles. The bodywork is flawless, with no stone chips at all. In my haste to get shot of the punto, which was becoming a burden due to all the problems it had, so I bought the car.

Now, the day I picked up the car I noticed the stereo wouldnt work properly and the display wasnt showing. The plastic pin to stop the seatbelt clip from falling down was also missing, the drivers seat is slightly loose and I am able to rock it back and forwards ever so slightly, there was a small chip in the windscreen which the dealer said he would repair and he didnt and the drivers seatbelt is extremely slack when it retracts. You may think I am nit picking but these minor problems were beginning to irritate me. So I booked it back in with them to sort out.

This was last thursday. They phoned me up on friday to tell me the windscreen was fixed and they were going to send it to Renault Maidenhead to sort out the other problems. So I left it with them until today when I picked it up.

Now, when I picked it up it was very clean and shiny, but as soon as I got in, I noticed they hadnt done the seatbelt. I turned the stereo on and it was working ok, except the steering wheel control column was practically hanging out of its socket. Then I saw that the chip in the windscreen was still there. So I took it for a drive and noticed there were a lot more squeaks and rattles than I remember. I turned the stereo on and a random eminem CD started playing. Seeing as I dont own any eminem I thought this was strange so I went to eject it, but nothing happened. I tried a few times and then it dawned on me.....there is a cd changer under the passenger seat that I never noticed and someone had left the cd in there...doh! This has angered me even more because I remember someone mentioning that only imports come with the cd changer. When I got out I moved the drivers seat back and it was a tough job...the trim round the door deals had been taken off and not put back properly, and there are several bits of broken off plastic strewn around the trim.

To sum up....the garage have not done what they said they were going to do, and have handed me back my car in a bad condition with parts falling off here and there. I now think my car is an import and Im worrying about how much this is going to affect its resale value seeing as I paid a fairly high price for it anyway.

Looking back, I trusted the garage too much, as I did not have my own hpi report done....this was very stupid of me, as I saw their signs saying their cars were hpi checked, etc.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I proceed....my car has lost its sparkle now :(

My mates 172 came with a changer too, dont think its an import though.

edit: it also came with a whole load of problems too

It sounds like you have a clio which somone has fitted aftermarket Speakers / HU / Amp / Sub and has had the drivers seat / door trims off, check under the glove box for a grommet if its got a hole in it thats a sure sign a power lead has been run down the car.

The seat aint safe if it moves so get that sorted asap, the stalk and screen not working proper would be a connection problem might be worth checking the state of the wires behind the HU check if they have been cut.

Depends, if you're really unhappy with it you could start down the sales of goods act path, but that may be a little extreme.

I'd go and have a word with the dealer, ideally the service or sales manager, explain the situation and ask what they plan on doing about it, and see what happens from there.

Load of rubbish so don't worry, all the ones I looked at had the changer, nothing to worry about! :) It was an option most took up, it's an Alpine unit but the connections are such that you can't use another stereo with it and there's no adapater to do so.

Imports didn't have locking wheel nuts, window etching or the Renault fitted alarm (I say Ren fitted rather than factory as iirc all the alarms were fitted when they hit our shores).

sounds like you brought a car without making a single check on it at all. had you actually seen the car before you parted with your cash?

youve done it completely wrong and now youre moaning because of your incompetance.

you have to learn from it.

hope that helps

Im thinking it is an import now, even though it has etched windows saying "renault sekurit" and some numbers. It only has a key to take the front panel off the wheel and there are no locking wheelnuts. Plus I dont think it has an alarm. Theres a key fob and a red flasing LED in the dash, but I opened it the other day with the key in the lock and no alarm went off :(

Of course I saw the car. I took it for a test drive and it was fine. It still drives fine. I made a lot of mechanical checks on it. The only check I didn’t do was the hpi check.
I wouldn’t say I have done it completely wrong.
I was told that the radio, windscreen etc would be fixed before I collected it and no you haven’t helped. I think I am entitled to moan if someone says they will do something, and then they dont do it at all. Wouldn't you agree?
Also, what exactly am I incompetent of? Trusting a main ford dealer who has given me a warranty on the car I have bought down to the windscreen wipers falling off? Is so then I am guilty but I wouldn't call that incompetence (correct spelling).

Have you got the little ultrasonic sensors in the A pillors? I'm coming from a mk1 so mght not have been the same in the mk2..

Nothing wrongwith it being an import, just means it's worth less cash. But iirc unless you specifically ask is it an import the dealer doesn't have to tell you. Yeah it might not be ethical but just the way it is :) If you asked and they said no however, then you can kick up.

Dont think so, will double check tomorrow. Im more angry with the garage than anything else for wasting my time. If its an import then...whatever...cant do much about it. Still an amazing car for the money :)

Can't really miss them in mine, look like little microphones just a bit higher up than my eyes :)

Hi Panthro,

I am off the ClioSport website and remember posting about buying a car. Firstly don't be put off, they are great cars!
If I remember correctly the UK 172's came with a CD changer (my friend has one in his). At least you have one, you don't get one in a 182 Cup (what I have)!

And secondly, get them to sort those problems out and keep hassling them until they do!

James :)
