Feeling like something is missing

I'm a gamer, though I primarily use the PC. I don't get this rigid "I'm a PC gamer" mentality.

There are games I cannot play on the PC that I don't wish to miss out on. I also enjoy having friends round, grabbing four controllers and just messing about in front of the TV. Without a console I'd miss out on gaming experiences I don't want to.

Me neither, who cares how you choose to play games, I don't have a console but I certainly don't look down on those that do. Consoles are plug and play, many don't want/can't be arsed with the modding and patching and benching etc that's part of the PC Gamer idiom. I enjoy all that tbh but I also wouldn't mind some console action. Tough to justify the £400 outlay though.

I was talking to a mate about this the other day and i had a look through the releases for the ps4 and xbone and not including games coming out and games that are for the previous consoles. the ps4 and xbone have i think 9 or 10 games each that are exclusive or new on the ps4 or xbone. So if i was to get a console to satisfy my want for a console it wouldn't be spending over 600 quid for a new console plus 4-5 games. I would spend maybe 180 for a ps3 with over 10 games from my local CEX.

Best advice I have is not to talk yourself out of playing a game. I'll look through various games and dismiss them for reasons such as:
-Too deep, would be hard to get in to
-It's a sequel, I want to play the original first to better appreciate the lore
-It's an old game in the series, I'd be better off playing a more recent incarnation [note the paradox with the above!]
-There's something in the screenshots/description I don't like the sound of (I'm not a fan of the horror genre, so a level with ghosts or whatever might put me off)
-It has mediocre reviews

But why even put yourself through that? Just try a game, even if you don't like it at least you know for certain and the time you spent on it would have been spent scrolling through your Steam list thinking up crappy reasons why you don't want to play games X, Y and Z!
I have this same problem which adds to why i want a console. its after browsing my steam list that i then go grab a new tv series and watch it instead.

I actually wanted to buy my first console this time, to supplement my pc gaming, but Microsoft made such a mess of things and all the ps4's were sold out apparently so I got a new graphics card instead.

I wouldn't rule out getting on in the future for my girlfriend or nieces but gaming on a console always feels like a compromise versus pc gaming.

I like to enjoy both PC and console I will always buy consoles as its much more fun playing with friends all together in the same room.
