Do you ever have the feeling of wanting to jump from a really high ledge/balcony etc?

We were at my friends flat on saturday and myself and 2 others had the feeling of wanting to jump off (8th floor building) Obviously we wouldnt but one friends said he was 50 / 50 about doing it and that he couldnt control it.

Is there a part of our brain that we cant control with things like this? Does anyone else ever get similar feelings?

Its part of human nature. Everyone has the symptoms of OCD, but what OCD sufferers lack is the ability to control their urges.

What you're describing is normal for a lot of people, Obviously people who fear heights on any level, wouldnt get the urge you describe though, and so wont experience it.

I used to get urges to open car doors while moving... Obviously i didnt do it

No I'm not suicidal :p Although sometimes I get the urge to jump of a bridge into a river if ever I'm walking across one..

since my first bungy jump i have jumped of high places because i love the rush.

once was off a cliff into the sea and the second was off a balcony into a pool

I do from time to time, normally when there's railings or something to hold me back. If it's a "naked" edge then I'll keep well away out of fear anyway.

I get a shiver or a feeling in my feet that snaps me back to reality and reminds me that mavity will screw me if I decide to toy with it.

Yep I always get this craving on bridges etc, I lean over to have a look. :) 'tis why I've done Bungee jumps and skydives. :p

Maybe subconsciously it's a desire to relinquish control and to give fate a chance.

What a load of ****, its not human nature to get yourself hurt, if anything its the complete opposite.

I get this too, even though I've never been fond of heights. I also get the urge to jump in front of fast moving traffic. The faster the vehicles are travelling the greater the urge to jump. I've no idea why.

Maybe something to do with our fight or flight response?

I had this before actually, don't know what it is. Maybe similar to enjoying the drops on rollercoasters or something, apart from you'd near-certainly die.

I thought I was alone on this, so strange.
