My case fans are not RGB and tbf are all budget fans.
im wanting to move to a more silent fan now i have a low heat system with over kill cooling. but im also wanting some RGB in my life.

ideally looking for
4x140 OR 1x140 and 3x120

i wont change the cooler fans as it runs silent and they cant be seen
case is a Phanteks XT Pro

What are the fans to go with, i like the all in one type fan like the D30's but with a better controller i feel the lighting affects could be so much better on the fans.
again BUT the Lian Li approach is very confusing as to what works with what controller.
This sort of stuff confuses the hell out of me, that's why i always just gave it a wide birth

why wouldn't it be?
the Phanteks have JST connectors that will daisy chain for the RGB...and then an adapter that will be compatible with the mobo rgb or an rgb controller of your choosing that will control all the daisy-chained fans
the fans are controlled by a 4-pin PWM connector that you can plug into your mobo/fan controller

RGB has roughly been streamlined and standardised in the last couple of years
but yes, previously there are/were multiple different connector types that made them a headache for compatibility without the correct adapters

I'm just hoping the software is a good as it looks.

the d30 fans looked so good but the lack of a controller means id have to use the Gigabyte one on my motherboard and it crap
The Connect software doesn't have quite the power of something like Signal RGB but it's decent, you can set the fan colours or modes individually or as a block if you wish and it's relatively unobtrusive.

even the cheap rgb I've had came with adapters.

MY advice case RGB are pointless.

get some LEDs for the back of the monitor that sync to the screen and extend the colours onto a backwall.

I've got philips hue which is expensive but there are cheaper alternatives

as im posting here, my i have the SL120's and the SL v2 controller, what is the best LED strip to use.
the controller as 2 x 5v aRGB headers

do you really need strip lights with the rgb fans in place?
if you do, any will be fine
just make sure that they're the denser strips (60 led per m) rather than the cheaper ones (30 led/m)

i have this on my TV but i think on my monitor with it been a lot smaller it would be a distraction.
depends how small your monitor is I guess, on a 34inch ultrawide I barely notice the lights after the first few minutes when gaming.
I guess if nothing else they help to blend the wall in with the monitor and keep the sense of immersion going.

Awesome for movies though.

Case RBGs are just a waste of money, get a sound card, a headphone dac or something where you will see a tiny difference if you have to spend money.

The cheap addressable strips on amazon etc work fine btw if you must add something to your case.

its the mode shown in the first 8 seconds, its definitely not over the top RGB

but i do get what your guys are saying you see some case's that look like a pink floyd concert
