I wear Crocs at work, but I'm aware my uniform makes me look a ****, so just went for the comfiest footwear available. I'd never even think about Crocs outside work!

I've got those exact Crocs in the OP

However, I don't give a toss, they're comfortable and aren't anywhere near as bad as the fully plastic ones.

If you're really self-conscious, have a look at the New Balance MT20 trainer. I've got a pair for running, but it's so comfortable and cool (temperature, not look) that they get worn out and about as well.

Flipflops do make driving more interesting for sure. I find you can REALLY feel the pedal movement and the outside chance of a flipflop wedging the throttle open keeps it interesting
