Fence Privacy Ideas

So at the bottom of my garden I have a fence which I would like to add some more privacy to by increasing the height. I originally thought of Trellis (not too high) but with no clear fence posts to fix this too I’m not sure how to go about it. To note the brick wall to the right is our soon to be next door neighbours garage of which I cannot fix anything against without prior permission.

It’s around 18ft across, and the wooden posts which you can see have a gap of around 2inchs (which is where the initial idea of trellis came from).

Any ideas? (Nothing too high, talking around 1ft ish), something which would be in line with our brick wall to th left maybe.

Cheers

How high is it currently? Sounds daft but you need planning permission for anything over 2 metres.

Can't help on the actual.question though I'm afraid, just thought I'd mention that.

You could fix trellis if you have long enough vertical pieces so they anchor in the top and middle horizontals of the fence. If you only want it 1ft high I don't think it would cause too much extra sway in the wind, do you want to grow on the trellis or just to obscure the view?

It's hard to make out from the picture, could you add another gravel board (or two), and raise the existing fence on top of that?

It’s around 1.8m at the moment so not much really to play with.

Just obscure the view, we have a 2 level garden so when on the top level you and other gardens can sort of see into the garden, and even though it’s my fence I want to try and get sorted before the new neighbours move in.

I was toying with maybe buying large plants/trees but that seems expensive, I was thinking of buying some 2x2 and fixing them to the main side frame of the trellis of which would like attach to the fence posts a little further down to offer more support.

Bolt a steel angle to the end timber post near the garage and stretch stainless steel wires from your garden wall to the drilled angle using turnbuckle screws.

Use the wires to train plants along the top of the fence from the side bed and maybe from a planter positioned next to the neighbours garage.

Not an immediate solution, but give it a year. Clematis? Maybe an apple tree too?

dear god what is it with new build estates and finishing touches that piece of fencing is criminal why could they not just continue the wall and belnd it into the garage?

Personally If I were you I'd have the fence down nd put up a new one which actually looks nice from your side nothing worse than looking at the back of a fence!

Probably the builders access to that house (and the neighbours) during its construction. But I agree.

Trellis would work, just screw some wood into the horizontal timber and mount the trellis between those and the fence. It's a cheaper option than ripping the fence down and building a taller one.
What I did, it looks better when the hanging baskets are there!

That looks smart and agree on the hanging baskets! This is more or less what I had in mind!

moneeeeeeeeeeey!

Given the cost of a house going that wall/fence nicely would be a drop in the ocean!
bit it could also benefit the home owner in the long term..say he wanted to extend in the future and side access is limited....its an easy way to get small plant onto the site

If your building an extension you just take down a section of wall to get any equipment onto site that can't be lifted in I've seen it done all over the place. That fence is hideous and smaks of a lazy cheap option from the developer, they could have at least finished it on the inside!
