Hi everyone,

I was playing about a week ago and went to flick my volume knob round for max volume and the sound cut out completely and the screws around the volume turner (when the plastic knob has been taken off) were loose.

Problem is, I tightened the screws again but the sound hasn't come back, all I get is that 'hum' from the lead as if it isn't plugged in at all. I have checked at the jack in end and its not the lead (tried 2) or input but something has happened with the volume control and circuitry?

Is there an easy fix or am I going to have to get it repaired, if so, anyone know roughly how much they would charge before I go and ask and get ripped off?

Thanks for any help.

It sounds like a loose connection or something.

The electronics are underneath the scratchplate. You could do it yourself fairly easily, or at least inspect down there to see what needs doing.

You'll have to remove the strings first so the scratch plate will come away, once the strings are off unscrew the screws going through the scratch plate. Don't unscrew the screws which are next to the pickups. Once all the screws are off you should be able to lift the scratch plate up and the pickup selector, volume and tone knobs should be attached to the underside of the scratch plate. Don't yank the scratchplate up or else you may pull a wire off. See if you can see any wires hanging off the 2 connections on the volume knob.

You could solder it yourself if you know how to do it, or just put it back together and take it to a guitar shop, at least then you can tell them what needs doing. Should only be a 5 minute job really plus a new set of strings.
