Zee light was nicely diffused today, so I decided to go and take some shots of.. Ferns!

Tricky stuff :D
Had fun playing with various lighting setups, angles, and DoF - here's a few. Nothing great, but C&C appreciated. You don't get better if you don't stick at it!

I didn't like the colour versions!

I did the B&W conversion in my RAW workflow, I'll go back and re-do one in zee colour!

And they weren't fresh greens, they're a browny brown when they're curled up like this :(

Colour!
White card was the first that I came across in my big pile o' card :D

It doesn't help that all my colour ones have a bit of a cast to them - the flash was being diffused by a very bloo shirt

OK, maybe those greens are quite nice :p

edit : yes, second would be nicer with more stemmage. I find it pretty tricky when I'm naffing around so close (50mm macro, but I use it more for non-macro than I do macro)

I fixed the somewhat cool cast

A stofen diffuser is on my ever lenghthening shopping list - I even have tracing paper, but why go get tracing paper when I already had a shirt on? :D

I'll try the other two in colour.

I have been sneaking about your gallieries and short of what I percieve to be a few technical shortcomings, your photography is really, really nice

Quite the compliment!
Gotta ask though, where do you think I'm going wrong from a technical POV (or is it all sorts here and there? : D) Would be interested to know :) [Unless it's - cause you shoot Nikon :p]

I actually like both of them, but for different reasons. I love the texture in the B&W shots, it really stands out and is enhanced by removing the colour. However, as I've already said, I love the colour of newly developing bracken shoots so I also like the colour versions. However, I think the colour shots would have been enhanced by a different background. Either a dark one, or just by leaving it natural.

Bracken! This isn't bracken! Orrible stuff :p
I agree with the lot [most] of ya though that the B&W // colour both work for different reasons.

Cheers chaps :)
