Ferrari Luce EV

It’s the natural response to the range question.

It’s designers working with new foundations, no engine to go up front and a drive for slippery areo so you end up with a similar set of shapes.

Is it?

If you're talking about something like the Hyundai Ioniq 6 or similar, then sure making design compromises for aero gains makes sense. It's an everyday car designed to eek out as much range as possible. Does anyone buy a Ferrari for it's range/mpg? Even with increased drag, an all electric Ferrari is going to be far more efficient than any of their ICE vehicles. This argument is also undone by cars like the Taycan - all electric, low Cd and yet still a good looking car that, importantly, also looks like a Porsche.

Yes, all electric opens new design options but surely it dilutes the brand identify to launch a new car that is only identifiable as the brand by the badge on it?

It looks like one of 'copy' cars you used to get as a kid so the maker didn't get in trouble with it being a obvious Ferrari copy.

Oh, I've just seen the price. £600k!
I wonder whether if you have that kind of money to spend on an EV, you suddenly lose all good taste or something.

I'm sure it will sell like hot-cakes to the Chinese.

Weird how they can justify that price, as it doesn't really have any major USPs over other premium EV SUVs?

It's not like it has a master V8 or V12 in it! And you're not really going to see Chris Harris hanging the tail out around Maranello too. So it doesn't even really need to drive that well.

Yeah that looks awful, unless that’s the point like when Jaguar went all weird.

In that case, yeah nailed it.

Wealthy tech bros will love this. I personally can't see any other audience, the Ferrari purists of a certain age won't take to it so at least it's opening up a new market.. Ferrari banking on hip, young AI overlords choosing the brand perhaps.

It's a sign of the times - the future is ugly, bland and overpriced :D

I had that thought the other day while walking around Cheltenham, and looking at some of the really nice older buildings (architecturally). Thinking.......what new buildings are being built now that people will look at in 50-100+ years and think wow.

I imagine most new builds will have crumbled down by then! :p

Glad I grew up in a time where I was old enough, and had a little bit of money to spend (waste) on modding cars (not in a Max Power way!). Newer generations will never know the joy of spending £2k on throttle body kits to gain an extra 10bhp at most!

They should have created an EV variant of the Purosangue or designed something along those lines; instead they've produce the police cars for a Demolition Man reboot...

Edit - I don't think anyone would be batting an eyelid if the Luce was badged with an Apple logo, it would probably get praised. But i don't think this design meets any of the expectations the Ferrari badge brings; it's a bit too off-piste.
