Ferrari Luce EV

I mean, I don't absolutely hate it like some (most?) people, but it certainly looks like a facelifted iPace. Not particularly exciting. I suspect it'll do quite well as the target market do seem to buy stuff like this...

Holy windscreen wiper placement.

Ugly car but people buy the Urus, which is an overpriced, glorified Audi. No issue with them taking rich peoples money though.

Yes but as I mentioned before, at least that looks like a Lambo, and is sort of a poster SUV. Shown that car without any badges, and it would be reasonable guess that it's the new Lambo SUV.

Shown the Luce without any badges or context, no-one on earth would guess that's the new Ferrari EV.

It definitely lacks Ferrari DNA. Like you said, the Lambo still has elements that are clearly Lambo whereas the Ferrari could pass for a Hyundai concept car.

A lot of the re-renders aren't super practical but the one thing they get right is making the front look more Ferrari, which likely has very little practical impact but massively improves the aesthetics/identity.

Makes you think what's going to happen to all the supercar manufacturers in the future. EVs seem to level the playing field a lot more than ICE cars, and people of course gravitate to wanting a V10 Lambo, or V12 Ferrari.

Are they going to have a line up of EVs? How would you differentiate them as much as ICE cars?

The Luce isn't for supercar buyers. It's for EV buyers that want a Ferarri badge. The fact it goes like a rocket is really just EV tech being objectively better than ICE in pure performance terms.

People that want supercars will still buy supercars.

If they can buy them. But are they going to be made in another 50+ years time?

I'd be curious how fast this would be around a track compared to a Urus/Cayenne (to your performance reference).

It will take a generational or legislative change for ICE cars to go out of fashion, especially on the high-end.

What is an EV Ferrari really providing over other significantly cheaper performance EVs? Very different story in the ICE space.

Or buy a model S plaid for 1/5th the price and it's faster all round.

Well that's the point, people aren't buying a Luce because it's fast, they're buying it because it's got a prancing horse on the front.

True, but you associate that badge, or Lambo badge, or McLaren etc etc badge with performance, and the 'best' driving experience for your money. They'll still have that reputation from their other cars, but as trends move towards more EVs, maybe their reputation will change.

And for me it's not all about being fast. You could drive a decades old supercar, and modern hot hatches will be quicker than it, but as a driving experience, not much else would beat it.

At least pininfarina are continuing the dream.

They'll still sell some, because Ferrari will make people purchase them before they allow them to purchase the car they actually want.

Then it'll go in the bin and resale value will be abysmal.

lol can see the bragging rights now as people buy cheap EVs.....yeh I've got a Ferrari! *under breath*EV

I am not suggesting there are not some "interesting" design choices from the likes of Jaguar and Ferrari etc.

I am just saying it is a weak argument suggesting that it is because you can't make sexy low slung EV hyper cars.
just look at the Yang Wang U9.

if they can make that look like that then I refuse to believe that with a bit of Pininfarina type magic that Ferrari could not come up with a traditional Ferrari looking cars.
whether you like the Luce or not is irrelevant. my point is, it's not "ugly" because it's an EV.
You're spot on, look at rimac nevera, or the pininfarina batista/b95.

It's perfectly possible to make a 'ferrari' EV. I think this is going to shine a spotlight on lack of in house ferrari designers and it will damage the brand.

It’s a shame what every brand becomes. If it had a BYD badge on it, and a BYD price tag, it’d be alright. It’s meant to be a Ferrari though… Hardly one kids would hang on the bedroom wall.

this is how I feel.

if I could pick a 3 year old one up for £25-30k I would be all over it. it's nice.

not £500k nice tho!... it just screams badge snobbery car imo.
(I usually prefer to go the other way and have a cheap car with a "rubbish" badge that punches above it's weight and pocket the change.)

I mean, yeh. That is the problem. Its a £500k Ferrari, but it looks like it could be a 50-60k car from a new/random chinese manufacturer.

I'm not being funny, but i genuinely prefer the exterior looks of my MG4 X Power to this, and its only 1.4 secs off its 0-60 time too (whilst costing virtually nothing in comparison):p
