Ok, I know this was news a day or two ago, but WHY is it hardly being covered? It was like 4th in the rank of headlines the day it happened! Surely this stuff is headline? A fire sank this big ferry? I dont think so, something is a miss

"The ship vanished after setting sail for Safaga on Thursday evening, but no distress signal was said to have been received by Egyptian officials."

"They are not telling us anything," shouted a man named Gedir Mohammed, according to the Reuters news agency.

spokesman, Suleiman Awad, said "the speed at which the ship sank and the fact there were not enough life rafts on board confirm that there was a [safety] problem".

Just seems a little odd that so many die and its of so little concern/coverage

OMG you have captain planet on your sig!

Very constructive,

I think mainly its due to it looking like someone is to blame, so untill they find who is at fault its going to be kept quiet I think, as for not being covered I have seen it on every news I have seen, they just dont know what happened.

Harsh as it may seem, the majority of people in this country won't be that bothered because they're foreigners. It's not of national importance to us.

Conspiracy theories will start soon anyway, they always do.

yes, Im not saying its not being covered at all I just mean it isn't being given much headline space. Lesser matters, I feel, have been given more focus. The fact it is that area of the world heightens my suspicions too.

I heard someone on the ship drew a cartoon of Mohammed.

(But on a serious note: it was covered by the news, but other events closer to home have overshadowd it over the past 24/48 hours.)

From memory over 1450 people were onboard, less than 300 have been rescued.
The ferry was apparently told to turn back to Saudi but carried on, there was a fire and it sank.
Egyptians have been rioting and attacking the police - not sure why or how that solves anything.
For a people who believe in the will of god they seem very angry about death which suprises me. If God did not want this to happen then surely he wouldn't have let it happen according to their beliefs so why the anger.

That would require rational thought which is mutually exclusive to being devoutly religious.

Survivors have been quoted as saying the crew abandoned ship when the fire got out of control leaving the passengers to fend for themselves.
Brilliant!

Thankfully, it's written code in Europe and the US that the crew and command staff are the last to leave the ship after they have confirmed that every passenger is safe.

Hence the saying: "A captain goes down with his ship"
