Reading about this on Eng earlier, I agree with some of the comments, for laptops and portable devices this tech would mean daysof usage for high performance hardware. A Smatphone that can be actually "used" for days instead of up to a day on full chat would be amazing!

it's only a tiny part of a laptop/phone's hardware. It's not going to account for power drain from the phones screen, radio/modem, wireless, CPU/GPU processing etc.

If the technology is used in other areas of laptops/devices it would be. Inside CPUs, north/southbridges etc. Anywhere a transistor is used could benefit.

I may be very very wrong, but isn't 1.6Gb/s reasonably slow? i thought - for example - pc 6400 meant 6400MB could be transferred in a second?

RAM bandwidth is quoted in bits generally, so PC6400 would be 6400Mb, but only 800MB.
