Hi all,

About to start folding, im running vista. Ive seen that it seems to say that you need to plug each GPU into a monitor for it to work? Is this correct?

Has it been fixed in latest drivers?

Then do I just install multiple GPU client instances for each GPU?

Cheers in advance

You don't need a real monitor on the second and third cards. You can get away with three resistors soldered onto a 15-pin plug, plugged in to a DVI-to-VGA converter. Search this forum for 'VGA dummy' for links on how to do it.

You then need to extend your desktop across the dummy monitors.

Finally, you need to create a shortcut for each instance of the client with a parameter of -gpu 0 for the first one, -gpu 1 for the second, etc.

Thanks mate, saw this on another thread is it the case with the latest drivers?

The reason for faking the presence of a monitor is so that the windows desktop can be extended onto these other 'monitors'.

However it may be the case that the very latest Nvidia drivers no longer require cards to have monitors connected for CUDA to work. I haven't got time to check this but I think I read it on the folding forum.

I think the physx part of the drivers creates a dummy monitor, which the card sees as the second screen. Not sure if this works at all (maybe give it a try? Just enable physx and see if it works). You can just hook the second card up to a second input on the same screen (DVI for one card, VGA for the other for example), which will achieve the same thing, but you need to remember to extend the desktop in vista.

Good luck, and dont forget the most important part - putting the number 10 in the 'Team No.' section of the setup! :D
