Hi guys, been out of the hardware loop for a while but now have a hankering on getting a couple of decent systems back on board.
Just to get semi in to the new platforms i have got a cheap Asus M4A78-T coupled with a phenom 810 x4.
The questions are, what exactly does HyperTransport control now ? it apears on this board/cpu setup its the communication link between the four cores and between the cpu itself and the motherboard northbridge ?
The chip has onboard memory controller ( this refered to as the cpu-nb ? ) and again this uses HT to communicate with the memory ?
My confusion at the minute is what purpose does the northbridge on the motherboard server ? Have i got a bit of a hybrid board before they moved everything on to the newer cpu's in terms of direct comms between the pci-e etc ?
Last but not least, is it just the sandybridge intel cpu's that have dropped their reference clock down to 100 mhz ?
Sorry for the amount of babble, just trying to get back up to scratch so i can get on board again
