Hi all,

Sorry with all the questions but I want to make sure I get everything right before I order a smart phone.

When you say a phone is 'android based' does this mean the operating system the unit running? i.e similar to saying a laptop is windows 7 based.

HTC seem to be a popular choice for android phones, do they always use android or another variation especially adapted for the phone?
So, if i wanted to update the android version - would I go to the phones website or just get the latest android build?

I have a £150 budget, which android phone would be my best choice?

Thanks,

yeah android is the operating system but mobile companies also add there own stuff to the OS ,such as HTC add HTC sence which is very good and offers a lot of usefull widgets and apps

Ive no idea which phone you should be looking at for 150 tbh,im currently looking at HTC sensation XE deals , very good phones are HTC :)

My friend has the HTC cha cha and I must say its very good for a "budget" smartphone, proper keyboard and touchscreen unlike the lower end blackberries, I was seriously considering selling my HTC Sensation and buying one, but the screen on mine is cracked and i can't be bothered repairing it. Only downside would be the smaller screen compared to keyboardless phones.

Thanks for help guys,

I think the HTC range will be perfect, just need to find which one?

What is the main diffence between the sensation, desire and 3d (these seem to be the main ones). I just did a 'compare' on the HTC site but could not understand some of the jargon.

Also guys, are all these smart-phones usable fully when abroad (i.e America?)

Read reviews here for HTC phones. Out of those you listed the sensation is probably the best one. I've got a desire and whilst it's a good phone it's also quite old now(nearly 2 years) although it's an excellent phone if you want to put custom roms on it.

Thanks for suggestions guys,

The sensation seems a great phone but out of my price range really,

The desire seems a good choice though. My main use would be browsing and emailing so do not require the max speed for games etc. But, would I be right in saying i could still do things like watch youtube vids with a desire?

Apart from speed, what is the main benefits on the sensation over a desire?

Many thanks,

Many thanks,

Sensation has a higher res screen, 8mp camera and larger interal storage.

Apart from that, you'll be able to run the same apps if they're both on Android 2.3 :)

Thanks,

When you say larger internal storage this would not be updatable on either unit, right?

I take it the external storage (microSD?) can be updated with a bigger card?

Yep, internal storage on the sensation is 1gb I think, my Desire was around 500mb, can't remember :o Neither can be expanded, although you can get larger external sd cards.

Lol. This guy doesn't know what android is - he's not the type of customer who's going to be rooting his phone! :p

Thanks :)

To be fair it is actually what I would want to do eventually. I had no ideal how far smartphones had come since the last time I looked.
I've rooted other devices (or similar), things like consoles and satnavs so I'll see how it goes with the desire.

I'm sure you guys will help out if I get stuck though? :)
