As im doing Interactive media A level i will be working on Mac's for 2 years

Now at home i have a PC, mainly used for games - But i do do a lot of media on it

It seems Mac's are better at doing Media based things so im wondering

Shall i get a MacBook? Worth the money? Can you get on msn?

:)

Beware of the resolution - first and foremost.

They do handle media a lot better, in general the operating system and outlay of it is far clearer cut and it makes things a lot more pleasant.

You can get on MSN - but not the Live Messenger that Windows enjoys. You can use a dated MSN Client which Microsoft designed for Apple (extremely limited and old) or you can use one of the many other clients designed for Mac such as Adium, which I use.

I just got one and I'm going to Uni on Sunday to do Interactive Multimedia Design, I'm also a web designer and a freelance web designer. My points:-

If your thinking of using the Macbook only for design etc, there is no point as the resolution is no good for it. I cannot work any of the adobe suite on it. Thankfully I have a 22in monitor which is linked to it, so it saves me that problem.

Speed wise it is great. I got the middle spec with 2GB of ram and it opens all the adobe suite in about 15 seconds (first start) if you close them and open them again its about half that, plus I just leave them all open at the same time and there is no slow downs.

You cannot play games on it. Hopeless.

It gets dirty easily (i've had it since monday and i can already see it turning into a darker shade of white even though I'm trying not to let it get that way. I would go for the black model even though its a waste of 100£.

It looks cool.

If you want portability and your on a budget I would go for it. If you have more funds I would got for one of the Macbook Pro's because of the larger resolution, or even an iMac (if you don't need portability but are on a budget).

Resoloution is a bit on the small side of things, but once you get used to it and using expose(extremely handy) - your grand!

Games are okay in Windows, but then again you aren't exactly buying this to be playing the latest and greatest, or anything for that matter.

Had mine for over a year and 3 months now, have yet to see this dirt you speak of!! Fair enough the white plastic has got scratched, but I don't see any dirt or discolouring. The only darker part is the power button for me!

Would thoroughly reccommend one.

Lol i dont care about games

The reason i would get a macbook is for the media production cause its so much easier and faster to produce it

MacBook Pro looks expensive >_<

The MacBooks are far better value for money than the Pros.

And I like the MSN client for Mac - it may be basic but it does the job. Without adverts (I'm going to enjoy that while it lasts)
