Hi guys and gals, after some help please. Just bought the 360 HD dvd player, I have set it up and its all connected to my 360.

First question:- The meida remote that came with it, when I press eject, it automatically opens the tray on the 360 and not the HD player? From the dashboard when I first turn it on, there is an option to open the HD drive tray but when watching a film, when you press eject it opens the 360 disc tray? Anyway to change this?

Second question:- This is about sound, I have my 360 hooked up to my HD tv via component and have an opticle cable that is connected to my stereo,. I thought that the HD player was suppsoed to use the sound from the 360, however sound is only coming through my tv speakers and not my stereo speakers as normal? Any ideas how I can change this please?

Thx in advance.

the remote always ejects the 360's cd tray, unfortunitly theres no way to fix it yet

the sound, i assume you've probably got the red and white plugs plugged into your telly? unplug them and just stick with the optical. make sure to check the audio settings and check its set to dolby digital :)

Tried taking out the rd and white leads and setting it to DD but that didnt work, didnt get any sound that way.

My sound setup is pretty basic, just run an optical lead from the hd component lead into the back of my hifi so sound comes through my hifi speakers, basic but better than nothing.

Audio is set to Digital Stereo on the 360 and on my hifi I set it to optical in, I get sound through the speakers when playing games and in the dashboard but as soon as I play a dvd through either the 360 disc drive or my new hd dvd player, no sound comes through the hifi speakers.

I can only get sound throught the tv when playing a disc throught the hd player and none at all through the 360 drive.

Anybody got any suggestions please.

I have a similar issue with my 360 and stereo speakers. I think it has something to do with the encoding. I have never got DVDs to work across optical on my stereo, games however are fine.

Its not the 360, as when I had my 360 hooked up to my home cinema my DVDS played sound.

360 via Component into Samsung HDTV, optical from xbox into Logitech Z5500.

Sound will play from both tv and Logitech speakers wether ingame/dash/movie/hddvd.

I have it set up in DD 5.1 under settings too

Mines the same as McDaniels got the 360 connected to TV by component and an optical lead running from the 360 into my old Sony amp and sound comes out of the TV speakers and the Sony speakers at the same time.

Speaking of the HD Drive I'm still waiting for that DTS software update that M$ promised not long after the Drive came out, wonder what's happened to it?

The problem for me though is that I just run sound through my hifi speakers so I have to have it on digital stereo.

surely the stereo cant encode/decode (whichever it is) the DD sound, because thats what the optical will be carrying.

You'd need an AMP

How good is this HD player by the way. Worthwhile investment. I currently watch my DVD's though my PC onto a LCD TV running theatertek and FFDShow, and the upscale is very good am am wondering if its worthwhile? Does the pic blow you away?

Dont like the fact it does not support DTS yet either, that sucks. The differnce between DD and DTS is very noticable

It's definitely to do with the Dolby Digital encoding on DVDs. The Xbox 360 can't downmix it like it can with games. So if your stereo doesn't understand Dolby Digital, you've had it. I had the same problem with my Sony Hifi so I got the Pioneer speakers.

if your connected by component you wouldn't get sound coming out of your tv unlesss you have also put in the red and white phono leads. dont want the tv sound ? simple just take out the phono's lol.

all the component does is provide a picture

Ok update, just played my first HD disc in it, King Kong (superb piture by the way, blown me away), anyway I am getting sound through my hifi speakers now. However I wasn't with a standard disc. Obviously because the HD is using the component leads for the picture, I'm getting sound through that as well, whereas with standard discs I'm not.

Does that make sense?
