Few Questions for GX2 Owners

Just sold my X2 and now fancy a play with a GX2. I have a few questions for the GX2 owners out there.

1. How noisy is the card underload?
2. How is SLI working?
3. 8pin on the Hx620 OK with the card?
4. Any issues?
5. Good upgrade from your previous card?

1. How noisy is the card underload?

Silent at idle as you'd expect. Some games hardly stress it all and its stays fairly quiet. Others give it a workout and the auto fan moves over 60% and it gets pretty darn loud. Not that I care, can't hear it over the game.

2. How is SLI working?

Flawlessly. I've around 20 games installed and they all work. And I guess in the rare case it reverts to a single core, its still a 8800GTS which ain't bad.

3. 8pin on the Hx620 OK with the card?

You stand a better chance than a 6+2pin. With a proper 8 pin as long as the clips not too wide you should be ok.

4. Any issues?

Heat. Not the card temps, that does get quite warm. But not that bad, 70-80C. And it does move some heat outside the case with the vents. Trouble is the vast majority of the heat dumps in the case, so make sure your case air flow is very good. Other issues? It needs a fast cpu, you'll tie its hands without some serious processor speed.

5. Good upgrade from your previous card?

And some, beats the X2 like a red headed stepchild. Averages around +40% and the minimums are excellent. In game it 'feels' very much smoother.

Tried to catch you on MSN a few times to have a chat.

Do you know if enabling Vsynch drops the fan speed because it renders less frames or does it still render them and synch the frames to suit the refresh by dropping frames?

It still spins up, no stopping it. I just replayed a few levels on Jericho which was completely unplayable on the X2 and GX2 runs maxed out in game settings at 1920x1200 (doesn't like the AA though) and it never drops below the vsync. Its an amazing card and a great space heater.

you guys have sold x2s so the cost is not that high, so do think that it is still worth the xtra £'s over the x2 if you would have had to buy them at full cost?

I would say neither tbh with your cpu. save some money and get yourself a GT

Not planning to upgrade GF just yet first need new C2D setup. All i ve been hearing is that the gx2 is overpriced so would you have forked out the £300+ for it from scratch ie not Seling old gf to fund it? I still think its about £50 over priced but hey its the fastest card around and if you are happy im happy

Never noticed when its on auto.
It just works, dont know what you mean really, just popped it in and off i went.
I have an OCZ 850W and i just used the 6 to 8 pin adapter provided.
Nope, overclocks like a mad man.
Yup, had a GTS 320 before and this thing blew that away.

1. Ive not really noticed, so it cant be that loud, about average I would say.
2. Dunno, seems fine.
3. I had to bend the clip to the side slightly, but it clips in fine.
4. Not yet.
